Hope in the Rubble & Ash | Monday Invocation
“Hope is not wishful thinking. It is living in light of the promises you know are to come.”
Jae Bates does not ask you to look away from what is hard. In January, he named it honestly: the violence in our communities, the weight of the news cycle, the exhaustion of trying to keep moving when it feels like the world is falling apart. And then he offers something better than comfort: a hope that refuses to be dismissed.
Drawing from Hebrews 6, music theory, and a photograph of postwar Seoul, Jae illustrates what it looks like to keep living in light of what is to come, even when the rubble and ash threaten to undo your work each day.
If you have been struggling to find your anchor, this message does not offer quick relief. It offers something deeper: a vision of hope as something you do now, trusting that a different world is coming and that you are invited to help build it.
