Hope for the Future | Pride 2025

“As we continue to navigate uncertain times amid unjust powers, I pray the spirit of hope might come alive in each of us.”

Rev. Kipp Nelson,
QCF Community Member

Pride month is a beautiful time to celebrate the unique variations of the divine image inside each of us, and it is a time to stay true to the prophetic roots of Pride in the spirit of protest. No matter what your experience has been, the reality is that too many of us are still experiencing mental, emotional, spiritual, and even physical turmoil because of our God-given identities.

Just as Pride began as an act of protest in claiming the belovedness of queer identities in the face of unjust power, we continue to live in a season where that same prophetic spirit is needed. This moment calls for boldness and courage within us and an unrelenting trust that our God will surely never leave nor forsake us (reference to Deuteronomy 31:6-8).

Despite the worst imaginable circumstances, God will continue to be revealed through acts of love in community. And because we are all made in the image of God, we are the very people who embody the faithfulness of God for a time such as this. That means continually showing up in the face of adversity to proclaim the belovedness of all God’s people. That means continually showing up with and for one another in any moment of pain or tenderness. That means recognizing and honoring the sacred image of God within our human counterparts, and prophetically protesting any time that image is threatened or harmed.

As we continue to navigate uncertain times amid unjust powers, I pray the spirit of hope might come alive in each of us. May all of us in the LGBTQ+ community and our allies in the Church stand firmly on the promises of God and live into God’s calling of boldness and courage wherever we are planted. May we channel the unrelenting Spirit of God that continues to be revealed, even among evil and death. May we live in prophetic protest to claim the dignity and worth of every one of God’s beloved children. May we never give up on the divine Kin-dom that is still to come.

And until that day comes, may we live with steadfast conviction and expectant hope in the faithful love of our God.

“Do not remember the former things or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth; do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” - Isaiah 43:18-19, NRSV
