Where Does Wisdom Live in All of the Narrative Chaos? | 2026 Pre-Conference Devotional

“And yet, as I look to Jesus’s behavior in times of stress, I see that he retreated to pray and spend time alone with God, rest, or be in deep relationship with those closest to him.”

Brigitte Piskura

As we get ready for the 2026 Anchored Conference next week, we were curious to know: What piece of scripture or characteristic of God is anchoring you in this season? So, we posed that exact question to several members of the QCF Community. This week, our Conference Prayer Team Lead and Community Group Leader, Brigitte Piskura, chimes in with her answer to the question:

In a broad sense, wisdom is hard to recognize in the digital-age-to-post-truth era we are surviving in. Foundational truths are being twisted by people in positions of political and economic power. We use language like “my truth” in a bid to stand up to misinformation that leaves no room for the lived experience. Where does wisdom live in all of the narrative chaos?

“Get wisdom; get insight: do not forget nor turn away
from the words of my mouth.
Do not forsake her, and she will keep you;
love her, and she will guard you.
The beginning of wisdom is this: get wisdom,
and whatever else you get, get insight.”
Proverbs 4:5-7 NRSVUE

In this particular season of life, I am juggling many activities and responsibilities. Sometimes I have to tune out the broader world to focus on my own small sphere of influence. I question if this is right, as I do everything in my power to raise children who are compassionate and not ignorant. And yet, as I look to Jesus’s behavior in times of stress, I see that he retreated to pray and spend time alone with God, rest, or be in deep relationship with those closest to him.

I invite you to join me in sitting for a moment with these simple tenets I have come to believe are characteristics of the Divine Creator, whom I call God.

Breathe in… God created me with intention
Breathe out… I am wonderfully made
Breathe in… God is a God of love
Breathe out… Harm is not my name
Breathe in… God invites me toward wholeness
Breathe out… Brokenness is part of the journey
Breathe in… God is a God of truth
Breathe out… It's okay to ask questions
Breathe in… God knows my innermost being
Breathe out… My intuition is valuable
Breathe in… God desires deep relationship with me
Breathe out… I am free to engage or step away
Breathe in… God created me with intention
Breathe out… I am wonderfully made

As we prepare for the conference, may you lean into who you are, anchoring your heart in the truth that you were created in love, with the capacity for wisdom, and an everlasting invitation to the family.
