What Grounds Us Amid Uncertainty? | 2026 Pre-Conference Devotional
“In the midst of the heartbreak and silence regarding various levels of oppression taking place, I am anchored in one simple fact: This is not the world God has in mind for us.”
Aiden Nathaniel Diaz
As we get ready for the 2026 Anchored Conference in a few short weeks, we were curious to know: What piece of scripture or characteristic of God is anchoring you in this season? So, we posed that exact question to several members of the QCF Community. This week, our QCF Communications Director, Aiden Nathaniel Diaz, chimes in with his response:
For me, this season has been difficult. I would be lying to you if I told you I was not concerned for my loved ones, friends, and colleagues as we navigate topics of food insecurity, housing, healthcare, immigration, corruption, the overall well-being of LGBTQ+ people, and our collective pursuit to be whole people where we are not forced into boxes that only serve a select few and not the greater world.
In the midst of the heartbreak and silence regarding various levels of oppression taking place, I am anchored in one simple fact: This is not the world God has in mind for us.
During Advent, we looked at a couple of passages in the Book of Isaiah that discussed a vision of the world that seems out of grasp today. During the time of Isaiah, we hear about the political upheaval, injustice, neglect for the poor, and a spiritual rebellion against God–a spiritual rebellion against the values God has asked us to practice. This was not the world God had in mind for the people of Isaiah’s time, and Isaiah offers us a vision of a world that does align with God’s hope for us.
In the depths of my soul, I believe in a God who loves each of us wholeheartedly. In the depths of my soul, I believe in taking care of one another in ways that are life-giving. In the depths of my soul, I am anchored by God’s hope for our world: a world where the mighty fall, where justice reigns, where we care for the poor, and where we are led by God’s love.
As we find ourselves in this Christmas season and the joy, light, and unexpected love that comes with it, may we remember not to let that light extinguish as the darkness comes and goes. May you too find grounding in God’s vision for the world.
