Reexamining Hell? | Monday Invocation

Content note: The referenced session discusses hell and eternal punishment, fear and shame tied to LGBTQ+ identity, religious trauma, and brief references to child sacrifice and poverty. Please take care of yourself while listening.

Many people come to Q Christian Fellowship with questions about hell, especially where it intersects with their sexuality, gender identity, or sexual ethics. Whether the message came from the pulpit or from the imagery of the wider culture, many of us have been taught to link hell with LGBTQ+ identity, and that link has caused deep fear and shame. But what if our understanding of hell has been shaped by mistranslations, or by not knowing that other perspectives exist?

Today, we are highlighting a recorded breakout session from the 2026 QCF Conference: Reexamining Hell: Scripture, Salvation, and the Wider Mercy of God, led by Parent & Family Advisory Team Member Rev. Danny Cortez. Rev. Cortez offers one perspective among many within our community. Through a scholarly exploration of scripture and history, this session invites us to revisit traditional teachings on hell and divine justice that have often left people terrified of damnation simply for embracing their true selves. In its place, Rev. Cortez offers a more expansive vision of God's love, rooted in mercy, dignity, and belonging.
