The Light of God’s Love | Pride 2025

“But here’s a truth to anchor our hearts in the storm: God’s love is constant, unwavering, and not at all dependent on who we love or how we identify.”

Rev. Dr. Daniel Rodriguez Schlorff,
QCF Community Group Leader

Faith and identity can feel like a complex puzzle, especially for LGBTQIA+ Christians. It’s a lot to carry, navigating a world that sometimes feels like it expects us to choose between the two. But here’s a truth to anchor our hearts in the storm: God’s love is constant, unwavering, and not at all dependent on who we love or how we identify. It’s the kind of love that doesn’t just tolerate who we are but celebrates us because of who God made us to be—truly magnificent creations.

Imagine God’s love like a lighthouse on a sprawling coastline. The waves will sometimes get rough, the fog will sometimes roll in thick, but that light never dims. It’s there to remind us that we’re always seen, always cherished, and always worthy to belong. And it lights our path to move forward into our queer faith and identities.

When we think about the role of God’s love in the lives of LGBTQIA+ Christians, it’s obvious that self-acceptance is one of the hardest yet most beautiful steps. For many of us, faith has been tangled up with feelings of shame, making self-love feel like an impossible mountain to climb. But when we lean into the truth that we are already enough in God’s eyes—not later, not after we’ve “fixed” anything, just right now as we are—that’s where healing begins.

Surrounding ourselves with a supportive faith community is like finding travel companions on this sometimes winding, unpredictable road of life. The right people will remind us that questioning and wrestling with faith and identity is a great thing. Questioning and wrestling might seem scary—like that sprawling coastline—but they sharpen our faith, bringing us back to that beacon, which shines light directly onto our path towards a deeper relationship with God. Questioning and wrestling with faith and identity aren’t opposing forces; they’re each threads of the same beautiful tapestry.

Yes, the coast is often rocky, and the shoreline often foggy, but with divine love lighting our path to God, we know exactly where to go next.

God, grant me the strength to rebuke any voice that might try to diminish your beautiful creativity that made me who I am today. And empower me to reflect upon myself as you truly see me—a magnificent creation!
