For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like the Spirit of God as we are changed into the Spirit’s glorious image.
— 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (NLT)

In the tapestry of our lives, the Spirit of the Lord weaves a story of transformation, becoming and liberation. We are reminded that the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord resides, there is freedom. As LGBTQ+ Christians, we understand the yearning for freedom — the freedom to be our authentic selves, to love and be loved without fear or shame.

The Spirit's presence invites us to embrace our true identity and walk fearlessly on the path of becoming. But due to violence and oppression, so many of us are not free. Yet, God's promise is that we are all becoming.

Our journey of becoming is not a solitary endeavor; it is a divine dance between us, the Spirit of God and our community. We participate in the ongoing creative work of God, co-creating our lives in communal partnership with the Divine. Our sexuality, gender identity, and spiritual selves are intertwined threads, interwoven with the very fabric of our existence.

God invites us into a dynamic relationship, where we are not fixed or static beings, but beings in process. We are ever-evolving, constantly unfolding into the fullness of our potential. We grow and change, shaped by our experiences, relationships, and encounters with God.

The passage concludes with a powerful reminder:

"And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like the Spirit of God as we are changed into the Spirit's glorious image."

Here lies the essence of our journey: It is through our becoming that we manifest the Spirit's glorious image in the world — a reflection of love, compassion, and liberation.

During this Pride Month and beyond, let us reflect upon the unique stories of our becoming. Embrace the journey of becoming, for on this journey, we find the freedom to love ourselves and others fully.
