People Fear What They Don't Understand. | Monday Invocation

You are a child of God, and God sings over you with great joy because of who you are, not in spite of it.
— Dr. Sammy Ramsey

Entomologist Dr. Sammy Ramsey learned an important lesson in his childhood: "People fear what they don't understand." When he was afraid of insects in his youth, his mother took him to the library to learn more about them. What he learned there, surrounded by books about the most diverse set of creatures on the planet, became the foundation for a deeper theological conviction: that God has an inordinate fondness for diversity and that love, by its very nature, could not be anything but diverse. That conviction would soon be tested in ways he did not expect.

In his keynote in January, Dr. Ramsey vulnerably shared about coming out to his father, a pastor, and the years of rejection and searching that followed. Through it all, he kept asking himself why he was still a Christian. His answer is at the heart of what it means to be anchored and to whom. If you are wrestling with rejection, then Dr. Ramsey’s story may help you on your journey.
