“Reading the creation account through a gender role interpretive lens distorts the picture of God’s design for humanity.”

Today, we are engaging with a breakout session recording titled, Adam & Adam: God's Design for Humanity.

As presenter Amanda Pence describes her session: If conservative evangelicals actually interpreted the Bible the way they say they do, then they should include all siblings of faith, including those in the LGBTQIA+ community, in all levels of the church. In this breakout session, Amanda identifies flaws in her own tradition’s Biblical interpretive methods, reclaims Genesis 1:1-5:2 by studying it without “gender role” lenses, and connects the kinship between the first two humans with the values of the radically inclusive early church. She demonstrates that a high view of Scripture calls for full affirmation of all genders in the life of the church today.
